A
Foundation Established to Advance VA Research and Education
The Tampa VA Research and Education Foundation, Inc. (TVAREF) is
a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization established to advance the
research and education missions of the Department of Veterans Affairs
through the support of both the research and education activities
at The James A. Haley VA Healthcare System, as well as other VA
entities in the region. The TVAREF was incorporated under the Laws
of the State of Florida on October 3, 1997, document N35919, and
received tax exemption status from the IRS on October 30, 1997.
The TVAREF provides a flexible mechanism for the administration
of research and education funds for projects that have been approved
by the VA Research and Development or VA Education Committee. Such
support for these projects from non-VA sources include:

entities (e.g.DoD)
Private sponsors (e.g. drug companies)
Voluntary agencies
General donations
Other Non Profit Organizations
Funds received
by the TVAREF for a particular research or education activity are
accepted by the Foundation only if the responsible individual (Principal
Investigator or Educator) holds a VA staff appointment. The TVAREF,
however, does not administer VA appropriated funding or accept funds
for personal gains and/or accomplishments.
The Foundation supports activities by purchasing supplies and equipment,
paying salaries, supporting travel, and paying for other research
and/or education activities to promote and support the research
and educational missions at TVAREF.
The TVAREF is an Equal Opportunity Employer in compliance with all

by a Board of Directors which sets policy governing the day-to-day
activities.
