Dr. Martin is interested in collaborating with those who are adapting interventions to address the sleep needs of individuals who experience chronic health conditions (i.e., chronic pain, TBI) and understanding the relationship between sleep and pain from the mechanistic underpinnings to the treatment decisions made that drive access to care in this context.

He is a clinical psychologist at James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine: Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine division at the University of South Florida. His research and clinical areas of focus are on the role of insomnia and sleep apnea in the development of and adjustment to chronic pain. Dr. Martin is a project PI on the DOD-funded Improving Health Care Access and Engagement for Veterans and Service Members with TBI Morbidity (“IHEAL”), the focus of which is to develop a provider toolkit for accommodating cognitively impaired persons participating in evidence-based treatments. To address the co-occurring sleep needs of Veterans living with chronic pain, he has developed and continues to implement the Pain, Activation, & Sleep Skills (“PASS”) program at the Tampa VA.
